Kristiansand - IJmuiden

On the way to IJmuiden on this extended voyage, you get a real taste of the uniqueness of life at sea. Arrive a day early to explore Kristiansand, Norway’s southernmost city.

Departure Day

This stage takes you from Kristiansand on the southern tip of Norway some 408 nautical miles south, before ending in IJmuiden, gateway to Amsterdam.

After departure from Kristiansand, we leave behind the ‘Norwegian Riviera’ with its networks of bays and skerries and allow you to settle into the unique rhythm of life at sea with your co-sailor colleagues.

Why not arrive a day before departure to explore Norway’s southernmost city of Kristiansand. The capital of southern Norway is known for its charming whitewashed old town, “laid back” atmosphere, nearby wildlife and amusement parks and not least for its idyllic archipelago and beaches.

Day 2

We sail onward through the Skagerrak strait, passing the Jutland peninsula of Denmark and heading south along the beautiful west coast of Denmark with its countless bays and inlets.

Along the way, you’ll get the unforgettable experience of being aboard a tall ship in full sail as we compete in a short regatta with our sister ships.

Arrival Day

After the exhilaration of tall ship racing, the voyage continues into the North Sea and along the northern coast of the Netherlands, dotted with long sandy beaches and dunes, before we drop anchor in IJmuiden harbor. In IJmuiden all big tallships will be gathering for the start op SAIL AMSTERDAM 2020: A magnificent view.

IJmuiden is the largest fishing port in the Netherlands and the maritime gateway to Amsterdam, via the North Sea Canal with its gigantic sealocks. IJmuiden beach is one of the broadest in the Netherlands and perfect for wind- and kitesurfing.

Besides the many attractions of Amsterdam, North Holland is famed for its cheese markets, windmills, beautiful beaches and attractive dune landscapes.
